West Kelowna RCMP investigate teen chased by person in costume

West Kelowna RCMP are investigating an incident where a teenager was allegedly chased by an individual wearing a Cat in the Hat costume. The incident reportedly occurred around 9 p.m. on August 24 in the 2,000 block of Shamrock Drive.

While the victim was able to return home safely, police have released a photo of a suspect in a full costume, including the character’s signature red-and-white striped hat. Authorities noted that while wearing a costume is not a crime, following someone in a way that causes them to fear for their safety may constitute criminal harassment.

Cpl. Devon Gerrits stated that regardless of whether the behavior was intended as a joke, following a young person and causing fear is “extremely concerning.” Police are requesting anyone with dash-camera, doorbell, or security footage from the area during the time of the incident to contact them.
