West Kelowna wildfire caused by downed power line is contained
A small wildfire in West Kelowna, likely caused by a downed power line, has been contained by West Kelowna Fire Rescue (WKFR). The blaze sparked at the intersection of Elk Road and Ridge Estates, reaching an estimated size of 70m by 30m. Wind conditions were noted as a factor in the fire's growth.
The incident has caused significant local disruption, leaving 3,789 BC Hydro customers without power. The outage affects areas along Highway 97, stretching from Old Okanagan Highway to Cougar Road, and between Brendalee Road and Sunnybrae Road.
Elk Road and Ridge Estates Road remain closed while crews work to de-energize lines to complete mop-up procedures. West Kelowna RCMP are patrolling the area to manage the scene.
