Grasshopper Mountain wildfire prompts evacuation alerts in BC

A wildfire near Tulameen, west of Princeton, was reported on June 16, 2026. The fire, identified as the Grasshopper Mountain blaze, quickly expanded to an estimated 22 hectares and remains out‑of‑control. BC Wildfire Service deployed air tankers, helicopters and ground crews from the Tulameen and District Fire Department. The Regional District of Okanagan‑Similkameen issued an evacuation alert for properties on Lawless Creek Road and Tulameen River Road, urging residents to be ready for possible evacuation. Officials warned that limited notice may be possible because of changing conditions. The cause of the fire is under investigation and is being treated as suspicious. The incident occurs alongside several other fires in the Kamloops Wildfire Centre area, including a Kalamoir Park fire in West Kelowna, the Kullagh Creek fire and a rapidly growing blaze near Stump Lake.

No structures have been reported lost and no injuries have been reported for the Grasshopper Mountain fire, but the situation remains volatile with high winds and ongoing aerial suppression efforts.
