WEST. members Ryusei Fujii and Nozomu Kotaki announce departure

Members Ryusei Fujii and Nozomu Kotaki have announced their departure from the seven-member Japanese idol group WEST., according to a statement from STARTO ENTERTAINMENT. While the exact timing of their exit is still being coordinated with various stakeholders, both individuals will remain with the agency to pursue new activities.

In personal statements released via the group's fan club, Kotaki noted that a divergence between his personal idol image and the group's values made continuing as a member feel “insincere” to fans. Fujii also cited a misalignment between his personal direction and the group's activities. The remaining five members expressed their shock and sadness, with some apologizing to fans for the sudden change in the group's seven-member structure.

The announcement has disrupted upcoming schedules, including the group's planned appearance at the KAMIGATA EXPO PARK FES 2026, for which ticket refunds will be provided. The future activities of WEST. as a five-member group are currently under discussion.
