West Midlands Ambulance Service to build £14.2m Shrewsbury hub

West Midlands Ambulance Service has announced a £14.2 million investment to build a new operational hub in Shrewsbury. Located at Emstrey Bank near the A5, the purpose-built facility is designed to secure ambulance provision in Shropshire for the next 30 years.

The new site will accommodate over 500 staff, doubling the capacity of the current Longden Road location. It will house more than 50 ambulances and feature expanded on-site fleet maintenance and ‘make ready’ capabilities. The facility will also include specialized training areas and improved staff break accommodations.

Designed to meet modern sustainability standards, the hub will adhere to Net Zero requirements and hold a BREEAM Excellent Rating. The site is planned to be fully electric vehicle enabled to support future fleet transitions.
