West Sumatra distributes 52,000 fish seeds to Solok farmers
The West Sumatra Provincial Government has distributed approximately 52,000 fish seeds and feed to aquaculture farmers in Solok Regency who were affected by recent disasters. The initiative, led by Governor Mahyeldi Ansharullah, aims to accelerate the recovery of the local fisheries sector and restore the productivity of affected households.
Governor Mahyeldi stated that all relevant regional government organizations (OPD) have been instructed to survey community needs and provide assistance tailored to specific sectors. This distribution is part of a broader effort to help citizens rebuild their livelihoods following the disaster.
Looking toward long-term economic recovery, the West Sumatra Marine and Fisheries Service (DKP) is planning the ‘Thematic Inland Fisheries Cultivation Program’ to launch in 2027. This program is designed to expand village-based aquaculture and foster economic independence. Under this plan, participating locations are expected to receive approximately 20 ponds, fish seeds, and feed for a four-month cultivation cycle, with the goal of enabling farmers to fund subsequent cycles independently after the first harvest.
