West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi backs civil‑servant domicile placement pilot

Governor Mahyeldi Ansharullah of West Sumatra endorsed the Badan Kepegawaian Negara (BKN) pilot that places civil servants (ASN) closer to their place of residence. He said the scheme aims to improve work‑life balance, motivation, productivity and the quality of public services.

Mahyeldi noted that he has long considered domicile as a factor in staff placement during his tenure as mayor of Padang and now as governor. He stressed that assignments must still prioritize organisational needs, competence and merit, and that proximity to family must not compromise professional standards. He hopes the trial will inform a nationwide policy refinement. The minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform, Rini Widyantini, echoed support, saying the approach can be applied nationally if properly managed.
