West Sumatra hosts Saraso Fest 2026 cultural showcase

The Saraso Fest 2026 Regional Cultural Week, held at the West Sumatra Cultural Park, showcased rare traditional Minangkabau arts. The opening night featured performances from Agam Regency, including the Tupai Janjang dance and Talempong Uwaik-Uwaik percussion.

The Tupai Janjang performance, presented by the Sanggar Seni Tupai Janjang from Nagari Tigo Koto Silungkang, narrated the epic story of Datuak Bandaro and Puti Silinduang Bulan. The tale follows their emotional journey of parenthood and the acceptance of a child born with the characteristics of a squirrel, reflecting Minangkabau philosophical values regarding destiny and unconditional parental love.
