West Sumatra police destroy drugs as Jakarta prison foils squid‑smuggled narcotics

The West Sumatra Police (Polda Sumbar) destroyed 184.71 grams of methamphetamine and 100 ecstasy tablets that had been seized in two separate investigations in Agam and Tanah Datar districts. Director of the Narcotics Investigation Division, Kombes Pol Wedy Mahadi, said the destruction shows “transparency and accountability” and noted that offenders can face penalties up to death, life imprisonment or up to 20 years under Indonesia’s drug law.

In Jakarta, officials at the Class IIA Narcotics Prison uncovered 12 packages of illegal narcotics hidden inside a serving of stir‑fried squid brought by a visitor. Prison staff followed standard operating procedures, reported the find to police and detained two visitors, identified as K and RP. The drugs originated from Tanjung Priok in North Jakarta, and the smuggler expected a reward of 500,000 rupiah. Prison chief Edi Sigit Budiman said, “Kami berhasil menggagalkan upaya penyelundupan narkoba,” and pledged tighter inspections of visitors and belongings.
