West Sumatra Police initiate forest fire mitigation measures

The West Sumatra Regional Police (Polda Sumbar) has initiated mitigation steps to anticipate forest and land fires (karhutla). AKBP Andre Anas, Director of Samapta Polda Sumbar, confirmed that equipment readiness has been verified through coordination with various stakeholders.

To prevent fires, Samapta units have been instructed to conduct patrols in areas identified as hotspots. The police are implementing preemptive, preventive, and detection measures, emphasizing that fire management requires synergy between the police, military, local government, disaster management agencies (BPBD), firefighters, and the community. Authorities have also urged the public to exercise caution when using fire for land-clearing activities.
