Indonesia seizes 2.6 tonnes of liquid methamphetamine

Indonesian authorities, including the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and customs officials, have seized 2.6 tonnes of liquid methamphetamine in one of the country’s largest drug busts. The seizure occurred near Bengkalis in Riau province after officials intercepted the MV Rain Maker, a vessel flying a Tanzanian flag that was reportedly operating under a false name.

Intelligence suggested the vessel was traveling from Sarawak, Malaysia, through the Andaman Sea toward Indonesia. Upon inspection, officers discovered the liquid methamphetamine hidden within eight water barrels and a water tank. Additionally, sniffer dogs located more than 1.5 million illegal cigarettes on board.

Ten crew members, all Myanmar nationals, were arrested during the operation. This incident marks the second time this month that a Tanzanian-flagged vessel has been intercepted in the region, following a seizure of 1.3 tonnes of ketamine on August 8.
