West Sumatra pushes for sister city ties with Jeonbuk, South Korea

West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi Ansharullah is encouraging the Padang City Government to explore sister city agreements with municipalities in Jeonbuk Province, South Korea. This initiative aims to expand the existing sister province relationship between West Sumatra and Jeonbuk into more concrete collaborations at the municipal level.

During the Asia Cultural Promotion 2026 event held at the Bagindo Aziz Chan Youth Center in Padang, Mahyeldi emphasized that city-level cooperation could provide direct benefits to the community in sectors such as economy, education, culture, tourism, and human resource development.

The event featured various cultural exchanges, including Taekwondo, Korean speaking contests, traditional Korean music, Hanji crafts, Korean cuisine, and Hanbok, alongside traditional West Sumatran dance and silat. The promotion serves as a platform to strengthen friendship and mutual understanding between the people of both regions.
