Farmers in Indonesia protest for agrarian reform on National Farmers Day

To commemorate National Farmers Day 2026, various groups in Indonesia have organized demonstrations and calls for action regarding agrarian issues.

In Asahan Regency, North Sumatra, the Indonesian Farmers Union (SPI) held a protest at the Regent's office. The group demanded genuine agrarian reform, emphasizing that land disputes should be resolved through justice and legal certainty rather than mere administrative processes. They called for an end to the criminalization of those fighting for land rights and urged the state to ensure land provides maximum benefit to farmers.

In West Sumatra, students held demonstrations demanding replacement land for victims of disasters. Other movements, including Fortani 26 and FKMGS, have also consolidated their efforts to advocate for pro-farmer policies and present specific demands to the government.
