West Tarneit Station opens to improve Melbourne rail access
Melbourne’s new West Tarneit Station is now open to passengers, aiming to reduce congestion at the existing Tarneit Station and improve public transport access in the region.
The facility includes 400 car spaces, a four-bay bus interchange, and dedicated cycling and pedestrian links. For cyclists, the station provides a 26-space Parkiteer and 30 bicycle hoops. Ongoing landscaping will involve planting over 65,000 native trees, plants, and grasses, alongside the installation of additional seating and separated pathways.
To support the new station, more than 1,100 services were added to the local Tarneit bus network in August. This includes a new Route 186 bus connecting Tarneit and West Tarneit stations via Dohertys Road, and increased frequency for the Route 182 service. Additionally, the rollout of nine-car V/Line trains to Wyndham Vale has increased peak service capacity by 50 per cent.
