West Virginia announces $26 million for community and park investments
Governor Patrick Morrisey has announced significant funding aimed at strengthening West Virginia's infrastructure, healthcare, and tourism sectors.
Through the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), more than $6.4 million in POWER funding has been allocated to four key projects. These initiatives include the Clear Fork Rails-to-Trails Project, which aims to develop recreational trails; the Accelerating Coal Technologies (ACT) Coalition to support energy-related business technology; the Future-Proofing Rural Healthcare Industry Clusters to expand medical services; and the Building Resilient Communities (BRiC) project through Marshall University.
Additionally, approximately $19.7 million is being invested to modernize West Virginia's state parks, forests, and outdoor recreation areas. This includes $1 million for snow-making equipment enhancements at Canaan Valley in Tucker County. Other allocations include $150,000 for roof replacements at Cass Scenic Railroad, Pipestem Resort, and other state parks, as well as $2 million designated for statewide wastewater system repairs.
