West Virginia coach supports Zac Alley amid defensive struggles

West Virginia head coach Rich Rodriguez has expressed public support for defensive coordinator Zac Alley following a series of poor defensive performances. Despite recent struggles where the defense allowed high point totals against Arizona, Iowa State, and Oklahoma State, Rodriguez cited Alley’s successful track record at Oklahoma as a reason for his confidence.

Alley indicated that while he believes in his coaching staff, the team is looking at personnel changes and positional shifts to improve performance. He noted that defensive roles are currently open and that the staff is prioritizing athleticism and versatility, particularly in the secondary, to find the best lineup. Alley also addressed recent criticisms by stating that the coaching staff has not forgotten how to coach, but rather that the team must address issues regarding effort and execution.
