West Virginia Flood Relief Shifts as Distribution Center Closes

The emergency distribution center at West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon will close on Sunday, ending its final days of operation. The center will serve the public until 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, after which remaining supplies will be moved to the Market Place Plaza disaster‑relief site in Lewis County.

Local officials, including city spokesman Randy Sanders, said volunteers are repairing homes and the West Virginia National Guard is clearing debris. State Senator Ben Queen noted that damage to Lewis County schools could run into the multi‑million‑dollar range and that recovery efforts are evolving as the community moves out of emergency mode. About 1,000 structures in Buckhannon still need repair, and the city has waived building‑permit fees while maintaining code compliance.

The Rotary Club of Buckhannon Upshur Foundation continues to accept online donations to support flood‑recovery needs, directing funds to verified local assistance such as household repairs and volunteer support.
