West Virginia football moves to 2-0 after blowout win over UT Martin

West Virginia University football moved to a 2-0 record following a 52-7 victory over FCS opponent UT Martin. The win marks the program's first undefeated start since 2018.

Quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr., a transfer from Oklahoma, has demonstrated efficiency through the first two games of the season. In the matchup against UT Martin, Hawkins completed 5-for-7 passes for 155 yards and contributed significantly with his legs, including a 71-yard touchdown run. Across two games, Hawkins has accumulated 287 passing yards and 199 rushing yards, totaling six touchdowns.

Head coach Rich Rodriguez noted the team's increased speed and athleticism compared to the previous season, highlighting explosive plays from players such as D.J. Epps and Cam Cook. The Mountaineers are scheduled to face No. 25 Virginia in the Duke's Mayo Classic in Charlotte next week.
