West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey launches water listening tour and pushes 50 by 50 energy plan

Governor Patrick Morrisey began a two‑day Water Listening Tour in southern West Virginia, meeting mayors, residents and water‑system operators to discuss aging water infrastructure. The governor highlighted more than $550 million invested in water and wastewater projects over the past 18 months and said the tour will gather input for future upgrades.

At the same time, Morrisey promoted his "50 by 50" initiative, aiming for 50 GW of new power generation by 2050. He cited recent natural‑gas‑fueled projects, including the Mon Power Fort Martin plant and Dominion Energy’s 2.6‑GW Mount Storm facility, and discussed a micro‑grid for a data‑center campus in Mason County. The plan is presented as a driver of high‑paying jobs, increased tax revenue and a future income‑tax reduction for West Virginians.
