West Virginia healthcare receives major federal infrastructure and rural health funding

West Virginia is receiving significant federal funding to modernize its healthcare infrastructure and expand rural medical services. Vandalia Health has been awarded a $15 million federal grant to upgrade its equipment, infrastructure, and cybersecurity measures. The funding, secured through Congressionally Directed Spending, aims to protect sensitive patient data and allow the system to integrate modern technologies such as artificial intelligence.

Separately, the West Virginia Department of Health is managing nearly $200 million in first-year funding from the federal Rural Health Transformation Program. Department of Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Arvin Singh recently updated lawmakers on the program's progress, noting the need to obligate the funds by an October 31 deadline. The program includes initiatives such as expanding telehealth access, creating a unified health mobility platform, and implementing a 'Smart Care Catalyst' to modernize technology and shift toward value-based care.
