West Virginia woman arrested for alleged neglect of husband
A 75-year-old West Virginia woman, Margaret Rog, has been arrested following the death of her 76-year-old husband. Authorities from the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office allege that Rog left her husband, who suffered from dementia, Alzheimer’s, and legal blindness, unattended on a toilet for 19 hours.
According to investigators, the man entered the bathroom around 3 p.m. on August 20. Rather than seeking medical assistance when he became unable to move, Rog allegedly watched him in distress and eventually went to bed, leaving him without food, water, or his prescribed medications. He was discovered the following morning by a visiting speech therapist and rushed to the hospital.
Medical professionals diagnosed the man with several severe conditions, including heart failure, respiratory failure, sepsis, and rhabdomyolysis. He died on August 31. Investigators concluded that the conditions resulting from the prolonged confinement were significant contributing factors to his death. Rog has pleaded not guilty and posted a $75,000 bond.
