West Virginia women’s soccer defeats Penn State 2-1

No. 22 West Virginia women’s soccer defeated No. 23 Penn State 2-1 at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown, breaking a nine-year winless streak against the Nittany Lions.

Penn State took an early lead in the 11th minute when freshman Anna Babcock scored following a pass from Paige Kalal. West Virginia responded in the 34th minute when Olivia Shertzer scored an equalizer from approximately 30 yards out.

The Mountaineers secured the victory in the 67th minute when Sophia Nickel scored a tap-in following a cross from Jordyn Wilson. The win moves West Virginia to 2-0 on the season, while Penn State drops to 0-1-1.
