West Yorkshire councils propose new community and service improvement plans

Local councils in West Yorkshire are preparing to discuss new strategic plans aimed at improving community services and neighborhood standards.

Calderdale Council is set to consider its Corporate Plan for 2026-2029. The plan addresses high demand for adult social care and children’s services alongside financial pressures. Key priorities include achieving value for money, improving roads and highways, reducing crime and anti-social behavior in partnership with West Yorkshire Police, enhancing street cleanliness, and supporting safe, affordable housing.

In Leeds, senior councillors will review a proposed neighborhood-led improvement programme. If approved, the initiative will involve council teams and local partners working with residents across all 33 wards to address issues such as street cleaning, graffiti removal, and fly-tipping. The programme aims to empower residents to shape local decisions and tackle health inequalities through a collaborative, four-phase operating model.
