West Yorkshire hedgehog death sparks animal cruelty appeal

An animal rescue charity in West Yorkshire is appealing for information following the death of a pregnant hedgehog that was allegedly attacked by a group of children. Castleford Hedgehog Rescue reported that the animal was taken in on a Friday night after being attacked by a group of boys in the Sharlston Common area.

Beth Campsill of the rescue centre described the injuries as severe, noting the hedgehog had sustained smashed facial and back injuries. Despite receiving medical attention, the hedgehog died on Saturday night, and its unborn litter could not be saved. The charity reported that the attack was believed to have involved six boys aged between nine and 13 on Weeland Avenue. West Yorkshire Police have been contacted regarding the incident.
