Westdorf fire department upgrades water supply after drought-driven fire surge

The Westdorf volunteer fire department in Saxony-Anhalt has upgraded its firefighting capabilities following a series of intense deployments caused by prolonged drought. In the past four weeks, the department has responded to approximately 30 calls, primarily involving forest, meadow, and field fires.

To address previous shortcomings where hydrant water pressure was insufficient during a major 2023 fire, the local authorities have installed a new cistern capable of holding 120,000 liters of extinguishing water. This infrastructure improvement aims to provide greater security for the community during periods of extreme dryness.
