Westendorp man suspected of online sexual abuse of minors

An investigation into a 31-year-old man from Westendorp, suspected of online sexual abuse of young children, is expanding. The case has been extended following a transfer from Belgian authorities.

The suspect has been in custody since the beginning of the year on suspicion of assaulting four minors, including two children under the age of 12. Prosecutors allege the man used social media, specifically Snapchat, to approach victims and solicit sexual acts. Authorities also reported finding more than 30,000 sexual images and videos.

The victims are reported to be from various locations, including Keijenborg, Geesteren, Babberich, Apeldoorn, Wapenveld, Spijkenisse, and Emmerik in Germany. A hearing at the Zutphen court indicated that the suspect requires a psychological evaluation. The case is expected to be substantively handled in February 2027.
