Wester Ross named top European destination for slow travel
Wester Ross in the Northwest Highlands of Scotland has been ranked as the top European destination for ‘stillcation’, a travel trend focused on rest, nature, and a slower pace of life. An analysis conducted by Inghams Walking evaluated nearly 100 locations based on specific environmental and social parameters, including hiking trail availability, air quality, bird song richness, stargazing potential, population density, and forest cover.
Wester Ross secured the first position due to its low population density of 1.6 people per square kilometer and its vast landscapes of mountains, sea lochs, and wild coasts. The region is noted for its low light pollution, making it ideal for stargazing. The ranking also highlighted the Italian Dolomites as a top destination for this contemplative style of travel.
