Western arms reserves deplete amid prolonged Ukraine conflict

Defense analyst Marek Budzisz warns that Western arms reserves are dwindling while Kyiv prepares for a prolonged conflict. This depletion poses a significant security risk for Poland, situated on NATO's eastern flank, emphasizing the need for domestic ammunition production and robust air defense capabilities rather than relying solely on international solidarity.

In Ukraine, Russian ballistic missiles are increasingly taxing air defense systems. While the Patriot system is essential, analysts suggest that interceptor missiles alone are insufficient. To defend effectively, Ukraine requires not just interception capabilities but also reconnaissance and long-range strike abilities to target Russian missile launchers and launch sites.

The reliance on the United States' security umbrella has historically limited Europe's industrial defense capacity. As Western stockpiles face limits and political priorities shift, experts suggest that nations like Poland must build the capacity to defend themselves independently from the onset of a crisis, ensuring they possess the necessary logistics, trained crews, and domestic service capabilities.
