Western Australia avoids defeat as rain halts match against South Australia

Western Australia avoided a potential defeat in their One Day Cup season opener against South Australia after rain forced the match to be abandoned at the WACA Ground.

After a batting collapse left the Warriors at 7-134, new recruit Kieran Elliott struck an unbeaten 53 off 71 balls. An eighth-wicket partnership of 69 runs with Brody Couch helped lift the total to 9-238. South Australia reached 0-58 after 7.4 overs before inclement weather prevented the required minimum of 15 overs from being played, resulting in a ‘no result’.

Jake Fraser-McGurk had contributed 46 not out off 33 balls before the interruption.
