Western Australia faces injury crisis in Sheffield Shield clash
Western Australia faces significant personnel challenges in their Sheffield Shield match against Queensland at the WACA Ground in Perth. The team's top order has been depleted by a combination of illness and injury. Earlier in the match, illness forced the late omission of Jayden Goodwin and the substitution of debutant Tom Murray.
During the second innings, opener Sam Fanning suffered a hamstring injury while chasing a ball to the boundary. Because Cricket Australia’s injury substitution trial only allows replacements until stumps on day two, Fanning cannot be replaced, potentially leaving Western Australia a batter short for their run chase.
Despite these setbacks, Western Australia mounted a bowling comeback. After conceding a 132-run first-innings lead, they bowled out Queensland for 68 in the second innings. Jhye Richardson led the attack with figures of 5-19, supported by Joel Paris, who took 3-21. Earlier in the match, Xavier Bartlett had helped Queensland take control by skittling Western Australia for 175 in their first innings.
