Western Australia funds battery manufacturing projects

The Western Australian government has awarded $1.7 million in funding to three local businesses to support five projects under the first round of its $50 million Local Battery Manufacturing Program. The recipients—Magellan Powertronics Pty Ltd, Adarsh Investments Pty Ltd, and ProtoLab Manufacturing Pty Ltd—will use the funds to develop prototypes, purchase advanced equipment, and expand production capacity.

The projects aim to strengthen onshore supply chains by manufacturing battery technologies and components for residential, commercial, industrial, and defence applications. This includes the production of residential energy storage batteries, large community batteries, inverters, and components that are currently sourced from interstate or overseas.

Energy and Decarbonisation and Manufacturing Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson stated that the initiative is designed to build resilient supply chains, create highly skilled jobs, and support Australia’s transition to a cleaner energy future by retaining more value within the state.
