Western Australia launches inaugural Night-Time Economy Strategy

Western Australia has launched its inaugural Night-Time Economy Strategy, a whole-of-government framework designed to boost the state’s hospitality, tourism, and creative industries between 6 pm and 6 am.

The strategy, which runs through 2029, aims to transition the region into a 24-hour visitor destination by coordinating efforts across planning, police, transport, and local government. Key objectives include streamlining regulatory approvals for small businesses, improving late-night public transport, and diversifying entertainment beyond alcohol-centric nightlife to include arts, culture, and all-ages events.

The night-time sector currently supports more than 140,000 jobs and generates approximately $23 billion in annual turnover. To support growth, the framework focuses on regulatory reform, integrated transit solutions, and precinct-level safety enhancements, such as increased CCTV coverage and improved pedestrian infrastructure.
