Western Australia police seek suspect in $10,000 cash scam targeting elderly woman

Detectives from the Mandurah District Police Force are searching for a man who may have scammed an 89‑year‑old resident of North Pinjarra out of $10,000 in cash. The woman was contacted by someone claiming to be from a bank’s fraud department and was instructed to withdraw the money for an internal investigation. On 1 July, the suspect arrived at her home and collected the cash, later telling her to claim it was for home renovations if questioned. Police released an image of the man walking on Wandoo Drive near Carcoola Avenue and are asking anyone with dash‑cam or CCTV footage from the area between 4 pm and 5 pm that day to come forward. The force warned the public about similar scams that impersonate banks or other trusted organisations and urged people to verify requests through official channels.
