Western Australia recognizes pharmacist prescribing qualification

The Western Australian government has formally recognized the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia’s (PSA) Graduate Certificate in Pharmacist Prescribing as part of the Enhanced Access Community Pharmacy Pilot. This recognition allows trained community pharmacists to diagnose and treat 17 common medical conditions.

To support the expansion of professional scope, the state government is subsidizing 30 places in the PSA Graduate Certificate program. Kristian Ray, PSA WA Branch President, noted that the initiative is a significant step toward improving healthcare access, particularly for residents in rural and remote communities who rely on pharmacists for managing conditions such as skin issues, urinary tract infections, and oral contraceptive resupply.
