Western Bulldogs recover from major injury crisis in 2026 AFL season

The Western Bulldogs have developed a strategy to remain competitive in the 2026 AFL season despite a significant injury crisis. The team faced a traumatic period following a match against Geelong in April, where star forward Sam Darcy suffered a ruptured ACL.

In addition to Darcy's injury, the club dealt with several other setbacks, including a knee injury to ruckman Tim English, a knee hyperextension for skipper Marcus Bontempelli, a concussion for Tom Liberatore, and hamstring strains for defenders Rory Lobb and James O’Donnell. Despite these losses to their key players, coach Luke Beveridge and midfielder Ryley Sanders noted that the team has found a way to contend for a premiership.
