Western Cape Government begins R373.7m Sir Lowry’s Pass Road upgrade
The Western Cape Government is progressing with a R373.7 million upgrade to Sir Lowry’s Pass Road (MR108) to enhance road safety, traffic flow, and connectivity in the Gordon’s Bay area.
Construction, which began in April 2026, aims for completion by April 2028. The project involves converting approximately 4.57km of the existing single-carriageway into a dual carriageway between the N2 and Faure Marine Drive (R44). Key components include the reconstruction of 17 intersections, with 10 receiving new traffic signals, and the construction of a roundabout at the intersection of MR108 and Faure Marine Drive.
Additional improvements include upgrading Kleineryk, Mountain Stream, and Aqua roads, as well as installing new street lighting, stormwater drainage, and safety barriers. Work is being conducted in stages to maintain two-way traffic and minimize disruption to local properties.
