Western Cape matric exams to begin in four weeks

The 2026 matric examinations in the Western Cape are scheduled to begin on Tuesday, 13 October, starting with Computer Applications Technology. The examination period will conclude on 25 November.

In the Western Cape, 71,300 full-time National Senior Certificate candidates are expected to participate. The logistics for the exams include 485 designated centres, comprising 477 high schools, seven primary schools, and one correctional services facility. The administration involves 2,600 community invigilators and 3,857 markers to oversee 123 different exam papers.

To support students, the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has provided various resources on its website, including past question papers, study guides, video tutorials, and information on further study funding. Western Cape Minister of Education Jaco Londt noted that support is available for learners facing stress, with guidance available through district support teams and the Safe Schools Hotline.
