Western Force transitions to not-for-profit model
The Western Force is undergoing a significant structural transition as ownership moves from billionaire Andrew Forrest’s investment company, Tattarang, back to Rugby WA. This shift to a not-for-profit model is designed to unlock government funding that was previously unavailable due to the club's private ownership status.
Rugby WA chairman John Welborn has dismissed concerns regarding the franchise's long-term viability, noting that the Western Australian government is expected to provide approximately $15 million over four years. Tattarang reportedly intends to match this government investment dollar for dollar, despite its plan to fully exit the franchise by 2030.
The restructuring has led to significant personnel changes. Matt Hodgson, the club’s director of strategic projects and a long-time former player and captain, has announced his departure. His exit follows the departures of chief executive Niamh O'Connor, general manager Chris Goodman, and head of operations Tyson Beattie.
