Western Greece allocates €15 million for student housing in Agrinio

The Region of Western Greece has redirected €15 million of EU‑funded ESFA resources toward the creation of student accommodation in the town of Agrinio. The allocation follows a recent mid‑term revision of the ESFA programme, with €9 million earmarked for the renovation of private housing units and the remaining €6 million intended for refurbishing public buildings and constructing new student dormitories.

The initiative is part of a broader affordable‑housing policy championed by Regional Governor Nektarios Farmakis, who stressed the need to address a long‑standing shortage of student residences in Agrinio. Discussions are underway about using a municipal site near the former airport and adjacent to the local bus station, a location identified by the University of Patras as suitable for new facilities. The funding is expected to be made available for applications starting 1 September.
