Western Greece and Peloponnese to launch Hercules Trail tourism route

The regions of Western Greece and Peloponnese are collaborating to establish a joint cultural and tourist route known as the "Hercules Trail." This initiative aims to connect archaeological sites, natural landscapes, and local communities linked to the myths of the hero Hercules to create a unified tourism product that transcends administrative boundaries.

The proposed route follows a geographic axis including locations such as Nafplio, Tiryns, Nemea, Stymphalia, Feneos, Lake Ladon, Erymanthos, Tripotamia, and Ancient Olympia. Panagiotis Sakellaropoulos, Vice Regional Governor for Tourism Development in Western Greece, noted that the project intends to transform mythology into a "living experience and a modern developmental tool" with the potential for international recognition.

Specific efforts are already underway, including a €20.2 million integrated spatial investment in Corinthia which includes the creation of a digital interactive cultural center focused on Hercules. Ancient Olympia is highlighted as a central point due to its archaeological museum, which houses the metopes of the Temple of Zeus depicting the twelve labors of Hercules.
