Western Greece Region Leads EU AI-CARE Project for Healthy Ageing

The Region of Western Greece has been appointed lead partner of the EU‑funded AI‑CARE programme, approved under the Interreg VI‑A Greece‑Italy 2021‑2027 cross‑border cooperation scheme. The project, with a total budget of €1,281,178, brings together health and research organisations from Greece and Italy, including the Institute of Industrial Systems (INVIS/EC “Athena”), the 6th Health Region, and the Italian health authorities ASL Bari and ASL Matera.

AI‑CARE aims to develop innovative artificial‑intelligence‑based services to support older adults and people with chronic illnesses, focusing on prevention, early intervention and improved quality of life, especially for residents in remote or vulnerable areas. Deputy Regional Public Health Officer Anna Mastorakou said the approval “represents a significant European success for the Region of Western Greece” and will help create a more preventive, integrated and sustainable health‑care model.

As lead partner, the Region of Western Greece will coordinate implementation, contributing to a modern care model that strengthens health‑system resilience and enhances citizens’ wellbeing on both sides of the Adriatic.
