Western Greece regional issues raised in accountability session

During a regional accountability session in Patras, political factions raised several critical issues regarding infrastructure and public services in Western Greece.

The New Western Greece faction, led by Spyros Skiadaresi, highlighted the critical state of the Aigio General Hospital. The facility faces severe understaffing of medical and nursing personnel, impacting over 50,000 residents. Specific concerns were raised regarding the surgical clinic, where three doctors are reportedly covering more than 20 on-call shifts per month, hindering regular outpatient services and scheduled surgeries.

Separately, the Mazí Allazoume – Western Greece faction, led by Kostas Karpetas, addressed flood prevention readiness, road safety, and port development. The faction requested updates on flood protection projects for the 2026-2027 winter, specifically mentioning studies for Patra, Aigialeia, Erymanthos, and Kalavryta. They also noted planned maintenance for rivers in Aetolia-Acarnania, including the Acheloos, Evinos, and Morno, with a budget of approximately 2 million euros. Additionally, concerns were raised regarding landslides on provincial roads in Achaia and the utilization of the Katakolo port.
