Western Greece to invest €21.4 million in 10 new urban parks
The Western Greece Region has announced a €21.4 million investment to create 10 new urban parks across the Achaia, Elis, and Aetolia-Acarnania regional units. The project aims to transform unused or abandoned lands into green spaces, sports areas, and cultural hubs to improve citizen well-being and address climate change challenges.
Six of the parks will be developed through programmatic agreements with various municipalities, including Patras, Aigio, Agrinio, West Achaia, and Amaliada. The remaining four parks will be constructed in Pyrgos, Rio, and Missolonghi. Specific high-budget interventions include projects in Pyrgos (€3.59 million), Missolonghi (€2.75 million), and Rio (€2.676 million).
Deputy Regional Governor for Infrastructure and Works, Vasilis Giannopoulos, stated that the initiative is a significant urban regeneration effort designed to make cities more attractive and human-centric. The selection of sites was conducted in collaboration with local municipalities and the University of Patras.
