Western Macedonia farmers call for protest over livestock and frost compensation

Farmers and livestock breeders in Western Macedonia have called for a protest on October 19 at the Western Macedonia Regional building in Kozani. The mobilization, organized by the Agricultural and Livestock Association of Eastern Eordaia and Southern Vegoriti Basin and the Florina Agricultural and Livestock Association ‘Pelagonites’, aims to protest the management of livestock losses and the criteria for frost compensation.

Livestock producers are specifically opposing tax inspections, fearing that the detection of antibodies in herds could lead to the mandatory culling of healthy animals. They are demanding an official state-supervised vaccination program, a revision of compensation rates for livestock losses, and biosecurity measures including public coverage for disinfection and feed costs.
