Western Macedonia holds Green LUPO meeting on brownfield reuse
The Region of Western Macedonia held the third stakeholder meeting for the Green LUPO project, an initiative implemented under the Interreg Europe program. The meeting, held in Kozani, brought together representatives from the Municipality of Kozani, the University of Western Macedonia, the Regional Development Fund of Western Macedonia, and various research and bioeconomy clusters.
Project coordinator Paraskevi Christopoulou presented the current progress and results of the initiative. Discussions focused on the rehabilitation and reuse of former mining areas, known as brownfields. Participants reviewed best practices for transforming these sites into recreational areas and environmental landmarks, with a specific emphasis on protecting and enhancing biodiversity.
The meeting also included updates on recent partner meetings in France and outlined future strategic interventions designed to support the effective regional implementation of the project.
