Western Macedonia launches €12.135 million residential energy upgrade program

The Region of Western Macedonia has announced a new €12.135 million initiative for residential energy upgrades, funded by the Just Transition Fund. The program aims to reduce household energy costs, improve building efficiency, and phase out reliance on conventional fuels like oil.

The primary focus is the mandatory installation of air-to-water or geothermal heat pumps. Beneficiaries may also opt for additional upgrades, including hot water systems, thermal insulation, and photovoltaic self-generation systems with energy storage. Subsidies are tiered based on income levels and can reach up to 100% for heat pumps, hot water, and insulation.

Special consideration is being given to low-income households and vulnerable groups, such as single-parent or large families. The program targets specific geographic areas in Western Macedonia that lack district heating or natural gas networks. Applications can be submitted electronically from September 28 until November 23, 2026.
