Western Macedonia leaders express disappointment over Prime Minister's announcements
Panos Kepaptsoglou, President of the Decentralized Administration of Epirus, Western Macedonia and Thesprotia (PED), expressed deep disappointment regarding Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’s recent announcements during his visit to Western Macedonia.
Kepaptsoglou highlighted critical energy concerns, noting that rising heating oil prices and exhausted municipal budgets are creating a difficult outlook for the upcoming winter. He criticized the lack of broad-reaching measures, stating that recent announcements, such as the abolition of ENFIA tax in certain areas, only affect a small number of settlements rather than the majority of the population.
While some announced projects are progressing, Kepaptsoglou noted that other long-standing issues remain unresolved. To address these local concerns, a meeting is scheduled at the Ministry of Energy with Western Macedonian mayors. Deputy Minister Thanasis Kontogeorgis has requested a memorandum outlining the specific issues facing each municipality.
