Police in Greece and North Macedonia conduct widespread criminal crackdown

Police in Greece and North Macedonia have conducted widespread operations targeting various criminal activities, including drug trafficking, illegal migration, and traffic offenses.

In Greece, significant arrests occurred in several regions. In Trikala, a 21-year-old was apprehended with large quantities of cannabis and cocaine, along with significant cash. In Peristeri, a 33-year-old cafe owner was arrested for drug trafficking, involving the seizure of crack cocaine, firearms, and counterfeit currency. Authorities in Thessaloniki, Evros, and Kastoria also intercepted multiple individuals involved in the illegal transport of migrants, with many being moved toward destinations like England and Belgium.

In North Macedonia, coordinated police actions across multiple cities resulted in the arrest of numerous individuals. These included 16 people detained for drug possession and 14 drivers arrested for unsafe driving, many of whom were operating vehicles without licenses or under the influence of alcohol.

Additional Greek police activities included addressing petty crime in central Athens through the use of drones and specialized patrol plans, as well as addressing animal welfare violations and vehicle thefts in the Peloponnese.
