Western Macedonia to receive €4.85 million for cycling infrastructure
The Western Macedonia Region has approved €4.85 million in co-funded public spending for three major cycling and pedestrian infrastructure projects under the ESPA 2021-2027 program. The initiative aims to promote sustainable mobility, enhance the natural environment, and boost alternative tourism in the Lakes and Rivers area.
The projects are distributed among three municipalities:
• Servia Municipality: €1.85 million for a pedestrian and cycling path connecting Servia to Lake Polyfytos. The 3,560-meter route will include lighting, signage, and recreational areas near the lake and Servia castles.
• Kastoria Municipality: €1.5 million for a riverside road in Maniako. This project involves reconstructing the existing road and creating a two-way cycling path, pedestrian areas, green spaces, and LED lighting.
• Amyntaio Municipality: €1.5 million for a connecting cycling path between Petron and Agios Panteleimonas. This route will link Lake Petron and Lake Vegoritida to facilitate safe movement for residents and tourists.
