Mid-American Conference announces new tournament format and 2026-27 schedules

The Mid-American Conference (MAC) has announced a revised format for its 2027 Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments. Under the new structure, the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds will receive byes into the semifinals, while the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds will receive byes into the quarterfinals. This change is intended to reward regular-season performance.

Several MAC member institutions have released their 2026-27 season schedules. Bowling Green State University’s women’s basketball team will host 15 games at the Stroh Center, including a MAC-Sun Belt Challenge matchup against Georgia Southern. Central Michigan University’s women’s team will host Michigan on December 16 as part of a 15-game home slate.

Miami University’s men’s basketball team will play a 22-game conference schedule, featuring 11 home and 11 road games. Western Michigan University’s men’s team will also compete in a 22-game conference slate, marking the first time the MAC utilizes a full double-round robin format where each team faces all 11 opponents twice.
